Call For Expressions of Interest - Content Review Team

BCEd Online & BC Virtual School Call for Content Review Teams:
Social Studies 10 and 11; History 12; Geography 12; Law 12; Global Education 12 and Comparative Civilizations 12

BCEd Online has been asked to facilitate the development of a Provincial Management System for Online Content for the BC Virtual School. The Management System will facilitate province-wide access to high quality content suitable for delivery in a range of distributed learning environments. When fully implemented this System will:

• Identify and prioritize teacher and learner needs for online learning content in BC.
• Identify and inventory existing online content.
• Regularly evaluate existing content to ensure its suitability for use in BC.
• Include a coordinated system for developing or acquiring new online content.
• Include a coordinated system to review and, as needed, revise existing online content.
  

BCEd Online and the BC Virtual School are working to promote, foster and facilitate a culture of collaboration and sharing within the K-12 online content development and delivery communities. The plan is to build and maintain a management system for online content that is inclusive and responsive to the real needs of learners and teachers.

BCEd Online is inviting Expressions of Interest from persons qualified to review social studies content. Members are currently needed for the following Content Review Team:

Online Content Review Team: Social Studies 10, 11; History 12; Geography 12; Law 12; Global Education 12 and Comparative Civilizations 12. 

• Role of this group: To work in a team environment to review and evaluate existing online social studies content, currently in use in the BC public school system and/or available from external sources. To recommend revision or replacement of the content as necessary.
• Primary focus: evaluating existing online courseware for Social Studies 10, 11; History 12; Geography 12; Law 12; Global Education 12 and Comparative Civilizations 12 recommending revisions as necessary.
• Term: November 2006 – January 2007. Provincial compensation rates will apply.

Criteria for Membership

• Familiarity with the BC curriculum for Social Studies 10, 11; History 12; Geography 12; Law 12; Global Education 12 and Comparative Civilizations 12
• Familiarity with the BC Distributed Learning Standards.
• Experience in teaching Social Studies 10, 11; History 12; Geography 12; Law 12; Global Education 12 and Comparative Civilizations 12
• Experience facilitating Social Studies 10, 11; History 12; Geography 12; Law 12; Global Education 12 and Comparative Civilizations 12 in a distributed learning environment.
• Ability to objectively evaluate online learning content.
• Ability to adopt a provincial perspective.

• Your name and contact information
• A brief summary of relevant professional experience
• Your availability to join a review team for Social Studies 10, 11; History 12; Geography 12; Law 12; Global Education 12 and Comparative Civilizations 12 from November 2006 – January 2007.
• The names and contact information for 3 professional references.
