Content Needs Assessment

In the fall of 2006, the Virtual School Society, in conjunction with other key stakeholders, launched a Content Needs Assessment strategy designed to improve both the quality and quantity of high quality online learning content available to learners in the BC public school system. The key elements of the strategy are:

  • Form a Provincial Content Advisory Committee to explore and make recommendations for addressing key issues affecting the availability of high quality content in BC
  • Conduct regular province-wide Content Needs Assessments to determine the priority online content needs for teachers and learners in the province, particularly in Grades 10 – 12
  • Provide a snapshot of who is producing content in the province and what they are producing
  • Work collaboratively with the Ministry of Education, the Virtual School Society and other key organizations to identify the most effective ways to meet those content needs, either through the development, redevelopment or acquisition of needed content
  • Provide regular professional learning opportunities for teachers to help them create and use new content effectively.

This research has been completed and a draft of the final report is being reviewed by the board of the VSS. As soon as it is available the report will be posted on this site.
