e-PD Courses and Resources from ILS
Innovative Learning Services (ILS), a service department within School Support Services of the Calgary Board of Education, provides access to a range of professional learning opportunities called the e-PD program. The overall purpose of this program is to help the K-12 system to develop its capacity to provide online learning to K-12 students across both BC and Alberta.
ILS offers its e-PD courses, online facilitation coaching opportunities and resources such as the “Career Services” online course, the “Think Responsibility” resource etc. associated with their e-PD program, to BC school districts at 65% of published registration fee. Each course includes a variety of activities, readings and resources and the ability to connect course participants through email, discussions, synchronous communication and shared web space. The courses are offered completely online and are facilitated by experienced, enthusiastic educators.
Using the D2L platform and based on the principles of universal design, e-PD courses guide teachers through a considered approach to infusing technology into their practice. There are four core courses available:
• Teaching and Learning Online
• Building Distributed Learning Environments
• e-Designer
• e-Valuator
There are also numerous elective courses and e-PD resources. Teachers who complete the four core courses and two optional courses are eligible for an e-PD Certificate. It is also possible to take these courses for graduate level university credit through the University of Calgary.
