1 In January, the courses LRNT 518 A and LRNT 518 B are running concurrently in both Kamloops and Prince George. In the Spring 2008, all three courses (LRNT 518 A, B & C) will run concurrently in Kamloops, Prince George and a 3rd location TBA.
2 LRNT 518A is a repeat of the course that ran in April/May 2007 and is now open to new participants in both Kamloops and Prince George. People who completed this course in Kamloops in April/May 2007 can move on to LRNT 518 B. However, LRNT 518 A is NOT a prerequisite, so participants in Kamloops who missed the first offering of LRNT 518 A will have the opportunity to take it when it is offered again in 2008 and can take LRNT 518 B.
* LRNT 518A and LRNT 518B were offered in January and LRNT 518C is offered in April 2008 to facilitate transfer into the Graduate Certificate (GC) or Master of Arts Learning And Technology (MALAT) programs for the summer residency. Look for announcements to be made later this year for the most effective delivery schedule.
Delivery Mode
Each course consists of three weeks of facilitated online activity and a 2-day Face-To-Face session, sequenced as one week online, two days Face-To-Face, and two weeks online. This represents a total of 33 hours of learner effort per credit.
Cost
The standard per credit fee is $555.00 however a special RRU bursary has been made available for K-12 teachers which allows them to register at a greatly reduced cost. The total cost is a registration fee of $25 (non refundable) plus the tuition fee of $250 for a total of $275.00. The bursary amount is subject to change.
Credit
Upon successful completion of the course learning activities and assignments, participants will receive one credit. Individuals who successfully complete three one-credit sections of LRNT 518 can apply the credits earned toward either RRU’s Learning and Technology GC program or the MALAT program.

Courses are offered on an ongoing basis. A typical class size is twenty to thirty. Should your school or district have a full class size, we will attempt to meet your scheduling needs. The Technology Mediated Environment
In the Technology-Mediated Environment course, you will examine both the evolution of technology-mediated learning from its beginnings to the current state of development, and the range and diversity of technologies currently available for instructional use. You will also consider the ways in which technology-mediated learning influences instructional effectiveness and some of the social and ethical implications of using learning technologies.
In the Knowing Your Learners course, you will examine socio-cultural and technological influences on the learning styles of the Net Generation and will explore how these influences may impact strategies and styles of classroom instruction. You will also consider how the concept of information literacy is evolving and how information literacy, blended with the socio-cultural and technological experience available to the Net Generation can influence teaching and learning.
Standards in a Technology-Mediated Environment
In the Standards in a Technology-Mediated Environment you will examine how technology can be used to facilitate learning and will develop best practices for instruction offered in this environment. In addition, you will explore strategies for managing learner expectations, consider how to establish an online voice, and investigate the dynamics of web-based communication.
